When Caminul Felix Ministry has started, many of us thought: “How great! In a few years, there will be no more children to be rescued! Later on, as the years have passed by, we saw that there are still so many children who need to be rescued from this cruel world. Looking from a human perspective we easily can get disappointed: there are still so many children that need loving caring attention and it seems that what we do is just like a drop in an ocean! The questions that come are: Do we make a difference? It is worth to stay involved in this Ministry?
These are the questions that might come into our minds when we see so many children in need. But as we look inside of our family, as we look at our children that once were rejected, neglected and devastated, and seeing them now, how they have developed, and how God has changed their lives, we can see the difference, and we can say without a doubt: “It has worth! Each one saved makes a difference!“
It is like the starfish story that says, “one day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he asked, “What are you doing?”
The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back, they’ll die.”
“Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…” I made a difference for that one.” (The Starfish Story by Loren Eisley)
We can be like the man from the story, to look at the miles of beach and hundreds of starfish, and then easily we can give up and think that we can’t make a difference. What we can do is so small and it doesn’t help. But, we can also choose to be like the boy that persisted in what he did, being aware that the little things he can do make a difference.
Each of us, with just a little, can make such a big difference in someone’s life, and that is worthwhile!
